Day 70 - The Bikeriders, zero day
I took a zero day today to get my bike worked on and take care of a few more things in Missoula. I did get a chance to see the movie The Bikeriders. With a title like that I had to. Here is the movie poster. A lot in common with riders I know like an appreciation for good beer and good friends

Richard and Linda Thorpe rode the Transamerica route for the first time in 1974 on this tandem. They did all the initial reconnaissance to map out the route
I brought my bike into a local bike shop and they replaced the rear rotor, brake pads, and chain. They also gave me the bad news that the frame had developed a crack as you can see in the photos below
I brought the bike to a local welder who suggested grinding off the paint and then drilling holes at the end of each crack to stop them from spreading. I am hoping that does the trick. I made it 3,300 miles, bike needs to hold up another 920 miles

I was told the frame is under warranty still but that does me no good right now. The local Trek dealer said even if the could get a 520 frame (520 was discontinued last year) I would be stuck in Missoula at least 2 weeks

I hadn't heard about the 520 having been discontinued. Sorry to hear it, as it had great lineage and a long production run. I suppose bike touring is too niche, with correspondingly low sales volumes, to justify the cost of production for an industry behemoth like Trek.
