My wife and I did our graduate work at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Lots of fond memories and many friendships started. Rode through campus today and took a few photos

I ate a hardy breakfast at my friends house in Carterville at 6:30am. I need to take in between 5,000 and 6,000 calories per day so just like Hobbits, I need a 2nd breakfast everyday. Great sandwich at Faye in Murphysboro

Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a “Memorial Day Order” issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868. Logan was from Murphysboro

Steve ClarkI am so happy for you to be doing this great thing! Each day you move westward you put distance between you and the disappointments of last year's detour. Inspiring!! May the storms pass you by, the sun restrain its hell, and water be available whenever you need it!

Crossing the Mighty Mississippi tomorrow!? Or heading north a bit more? For me it was a breathtaking thing to consider how much water is beneath the bridge, all of it moving south.
