The last full cycling day on the A2O
Today we completed the Alps to Ocean trail when we reached Oamaru. It was quite chilly when we left Kurow this morning but it warmed up to be a lovely day. The route was long and not flat but it was not as challenging as the previous 2 days. We rode along rivers, past through some farm lands and some fascinating rock formations that once were under the ocean. I was the only one on a non e-bike who rode it all. One person had to take a day off after a fall in the loose gravel and unfortunately 3 others were impacted by the dam closure and had to drive around rather than ride. In the evening we went to watch the blue penguins come ashore to their nests. It was fascinating to watch but we weren’t allowed to take photos so a took one from the internet.
Tomorrow is a rest day in Dunedin and then we start the Otago rail trail that should be much easier.
