Drive to St. George

This is an A to B tour and the starting point is 1000 miles (1600 km) from my house. That requires a 2-day 1-way car rental. One way car rentals are hard to get nowadays, so I booked many months in advance. Oregon seems to have less of a car shortage than other western states.

On May 6 I drove 500 miles from Roseburg, Oregon to Fallon, Nevada. Volcanoes were obscured by clouds but I had a great stop at Burney Falls.

On May 7 I drove 460 miles to Mesquite, Nevada which has much cheaper lodging than St. George. Later I found out St. George was super expensive that night because of the St. George Ironman Triathlon.

Alkali hot spring is 6 paved miles off US 95.

Goldfield Hotel is an ongoing restoration project.

Goldfield, Nevada had 20,000 people in 1909. Population is 190 now.

May 8 I drove 40 miles to St. George, Utah for a Sunday after-hours car dropoff.

The bike tour began at the Enterprise Rent a Car lot in St. George, Utah.

Gregory GarceauI already know you'll be riding through a beautiful part of the country. And I think it's a good plan to be religiously neutral in LDS country. Still, I can't wait to read your reports. Have fun!
