Up we go

1200 alt difference - no rain

„One good thing about music - when it hits you feel no pain. So hit me with music…“

We listend to this Bob Marley song before we left Yvonand. The whole ride those lyrics kept me cycling. It could be worse.

Still no sun. App was lying again.

We set off from lake Neuchatel at nine in the morning. No rain and no worries. and either no jump in the pool before breakfast.

Where time stands still. No Champions League here.

We took an easy bike path along the lake to Yverdon-les-bains. Everytime when I‘m in Yverdon I get lost. All of a sudden bike signs seem to dissapear, but thanks to GPS we navigated somehow through town.

The Jura in the background.

As we were cycling we always saw the mountains in front (the Jura) knowing that we had to drive up there. Because my battery already has helped for more than 6000 km, I wasn‘t sure if it will last till on top. Thatswhy I didn‘t use the battery for the first 27 km! Uff! The punchline is: At the hotel it was still half full, haha.

The route was first flat then we climbed from 430 meters up to 1100. The region here is called „the Jura“. Jura is a ridge from Geneva to Basel (roughly 200 km). Its a hilly area where the time stood still in the mid 80ies. You see this when you check into a hotel. No one at the reception, no computer at he desk, carpets on the floor and a sofa that you don‘t wanna touch. Same in the room. Curtain and furniture are from the 70ies. Be glad when the TV has a remote control.

Don‘t look up

Welcome to Jura. On the other side the nature is beautiful. Cause here as well time stopped running. It‘s less crowded than the rest of Switzerland. They‘re famous for their watches - thats where Swiss watches come from originally - horses and Absinth.

Oh boy. This went for miles. I don‘t like it.

So we came here for landscape, lake de joux and Absinth. This is a liquor they invented some hundred years ago in Jura. Till 1998 Absinth was forbidden cause the government thought it makes people crazy (thats why we‘re here, hehe).

Our sign rill Geneva. Castle in background.

Welcome to Jura

Van Gogh and Hemingway were big Absinth drinkers. Hemingway had a drink called „Death in the afternoon“. Absinth with Champagne, after 3 or 4 drinks you‘ll reach a condition close to the name of the drink, he said. Thats what we wanna check out now…

Our tour in Switzerland: Bern - Erlach - Yvonand - Lac de Joux - Geneva - Evian les Bains - Lausanne- 382 km

Finally at lake de Joux.
