Ready to Roll

The Ancient Art of Packing

My theory is that packing for a cycle tour is similar to riding a bike. Once learned, it’s an ingrained skill which happens almost automatically. Only almost. A list to follow also helps me.

This morning’s packing progressed fairly quickly from ferreting stuff out of storage boxes; placing it into small piles of functionally stuff on the garage floor; and then lobbing the stuff being into panniers in no specific order other than trying to keep like with like.

The result is a Thorn Sherpa weighing about 31kg, before some food and 3kg water is added to the load.

Graham SmithTo Bill ShaneyfeltBill thankfully no flying is needed for this short tour. I can roll ‘The Pile’ out my front door and keep pedalling. I may need to use trains or a bus to return home. Hence I’ve packed a bike bag.
