Central market - Chumphon

This tray food vendor is all set for the evening dinner rush. He has even pre-bagged some selections for very quick pick up. Each bag, or portion, costs 40 Baht, or just over $1. We normally would get two or three bags and a bag of rice and bring it all back to our hotel room where we had bowls waiting for the feast to begin.

It seemed that everywhere we walked we found tray food. We've never been in a city like Chumphon in terms of all the huge selection of tray foods.

This was a store that sold all these different types of plastic bottles.

One has to constantly keep one's wits about them when walking in Thailand. There are numerous hazards.

Here the sidewalk seems to have become a store owner's personal storage space.

We couldn't figure this store out. It seemed as if it was a license plate store. But is that how it is done?! But the old Datsun was sure sweet.

This store/home owner was quite enamored of the previous king. Buying fruit from personal tables like this is usually cheaper than going to the central market. It means that they have an abundance of this or that fruit that grew in their back yard.

In Thailand now days you see signs for massage EVERYWHERE. This one is in front of a gas station.

These are oranges and judging by the price, quite high quality oranges. 80 Baht per kilo ($1 per pound) was twice the price we normally paid. Thailand has really delicious oranges.

Chumphon Train Station

When all you see is wood in a shop you know it has been there a very long time. These may not be trays of food they are pots of food. Same same but a little different type of foods.

A bakery. Thai bakeries leave a lot to be desired in our opinion. We never bothered buying anything from one single bakery while in Thailand.

These guys probably worked at this furniture store and made deliveries.

I've never seen a pig's head this close to jewelry.

The best array of rice cookers I've ever seen! One thing I will never understand is Asian's obsession with cooking rice in rice cookers. My Thai mother in 1974 taught me how to cook rice in a pot and that's how I've cooked it ever since. It comes out perfect every time. It's not hard to cook rice. I don't get it and the last thing I want is another kitchen appliance. OK, I'll stop.

This took the prize for the oddest thing we found in a bathroom. I guess while you are in the shower you stick a foot in this thing to scrub it. Seems to me it's a perfect plantar wart super spreader.

I wish someone had been inside this truck.

Tiny eggplant which are great in green curry.

Chumphon Central Market

Even on the outside of the market an old woman has a few selections of food.

We normally photograph our meals from restaurants but sometimes they end up not looking all that appetizing.

The Year of the Rabbit right around the corner.
