Moving on from Salzburg - The Road to Rome, Part Two: Europe - CycleBlaze

September 20, 2021

Moving on from Salzburg

They’re arbitrary designations of course, but we’ve come to another milestone spot on the journey.  I’ve mentally chunked it up into four stages, and we’re just starting the third: Salzburg to Piecenza.  And we’re right on schedule: we’ve been in Europe right at 6 weeks now and have seven weeks to go.

Some stats, and a look ahead:

Antwerp to Heidelberg:

  • 18 cycling days
  • 685 miles
  • 17,000’ elevation gain
  • 3 flat tires

Heidelberg to Salzburg:

  • 16 cycling days
  • 575 miles
  • 23,000’ elevation gain
  • 3 (!) CycleBlaze meetups
  • No flat tires!

Salzburg to Piacenza (projected):

  • 16 cycling days
  • 550 miles
  • 21,000’ elevation gain
  • No flat tires!

marilyn swettHi Scott - looks like you're having fun! I tried your Journal fix but my tablet doesn't show me any "handles" to move this entry when I select change order. Perhaps I'm doing this the wrong way.....

Suzanne GibsonIt looks like you are planning to continue on the Alpe-Adria as far as Udine! I hope you have clear skies like we did for that portion. It's the best. The rest of your route looks pretty tempting, too.

Bob KoreisIf Cremona is more than an overnight stop, I would recommend getting tickets for the noon concert at the Museo Del Violino. Solo violinist performing on a violin from their collection. It's one of the more memorable moments in a trip full of them from a couple of years ago. https://www.museodelviolino.org/en/evento/il-suono-stradivari/

Scott AndersonTo Bob KoreisThanks for the suggestion, Bob. We loved Cremona when we passed through for one night three years ago, and expect we’ll stay there longer this time. We’ll check this out.

Scott AndersonTo Suzanne GibsonYes, that’s the plan. And there’s even the possibility that we could get decent weather through the weekend, which could just about see us down to Udine.
