Genny's AM coffee came from a high-tech computerized gizmo at the Champs Food Mart, touch screen-enabled, with several choices of brews. It was acceptable, if not exceptional. Jim waited until Ely for ice. On the way to Ely we passed through Eureka, another blink and miss it town with virtually nothing open, from what we could see.

The last few miles coming into Ely are marked by huge mine tailings piled up above the town. The main drag through town is being re-paved and is currently only half done, so much of it was stripped down to dirt and rough. Ely is fairly large for rural Nevada, so there are open businesses, including a few casinos, a Dennys, at least 3 Shell stations and several fast food establishments. Jim got some ice at Carls Jr.

Today is our shortest driving leg and we arrived in Delta by 2PM, including the loss of one hour to Mountain Time. We are checked into the Days Inn and not only is ice available (Jim happy), but there is in-room coffee (Genny also happy) as well. Although the motel lobby says masks are required for entry, as we walked around town a bit, entering a grocery and a restaurant, we have yet to see anyone else in a mask. Tonight is next-door Mexican - there isn't any obvious outdoor seating so we'll see how crowded it is before we decide to eat in or do take-out.

As it turned out, next-door Mexican was good, especially being our first real meal in 2 days. Being that it is Mexican Independence Day, we thought it might be crowded but it wasn’t so we ate in. Still have yet to see a single person in a mask here though. And while we were eating we looked up the Covid rate here and it is quite high…no big surprise.
