Hike Day

Watkins Glen State Park and town

Yes! We are still having fun.

Thinking that we hadn’t been getting enough exercise, especially for our climbing muscles 😉, today we hiked up into Watkins Glen, a real treat!

A slot canyon, carved out by water, the glen features 19 waterfalls and it is quite spectacular. Visitors view all this from a walk and stairway carved out of the stone alongside Glen creek. It is a good climb for about 1.5 miles, then there are several trail options for descending, the easiest of which was still a thigh-burner.

The park also has camping and other facilities which we did not explore. Here are some pics, but they really do not do justice to the unique beauty of this little gem of a park.

After leaving the park, we walked down further into town for lunch, a little shopping, and then down to Seneca lake.

Then we slowly made our way back to the motel for a nap before dinner. All in all, a wonderful day.

Tomorrow we head for Ithaca, where we will spend a few days biking, hiking and take a full rest day.
