Today’s day ride was a loop in the countryside around Seneca Falls. We effectively rode from Seneca Falls to Montezuma to Clyde then back to Waterloo/ Seneca Falls. We entered portions of the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge three times and crossed the Erie Canal twice. The weather was good-partly sunny all day with temps in the 50’s and 60’s.
Rather than whine about the scanty breakfast at the Microtel, we went to Penny’s Place instead, about 1/2 mile into our route. Serving basic, good breakfast at reasonable prices, Penny’s appears to be a local fav.
After eating we headed through downtown Seneca Falls, then down a side road until we were well out of town. Soon we were riding on quiet 2-lane roads over rolling farm and undeveloped lands.
At mile 25 we entered the village of Clyde and stopped for lunch at the Blockhouse diner. The high point of the meal was my sausage-kale soup, which sounds like an incongruous pairing, but it worked. As for the other meals, the grilled sandwiches were cold and the fries were undercooked. The waitress was nice but absent. We would not recommend based on this experience.
As we left Clyde, we spotted a horse and buggy but it turned a corner and was gone in an instant. However, he crossed paths with us a mile or so out of town and Amber got a quick clip of him on her GoPro so take a look at the video below. Just past this sighting, I saw a horse drawn mower in use but could not get a photo before it went out of sight.
We also crossed the Erie Canal on the outskirts of Clyde.

Riding the last 15 miles was lovely; we had a tailwind, the roads were well-surfaced, there was very little traffic and the scenery continued to be great. Here are a few more thing we saw:

This evening we walked a mile down the road to eat at Connie’s diner. The decor and food harken back to the 1950’s and 1960’s and business was brisk. It was a celebratory meal; Rich’s Birthday and Jim’s and my Anniversary. As has been typical on this trip, we ate too well and topped it off with desert. It’s a good thing we have been getting a bit of exercise.
Tomorrow we head to Palmyra.
Today's ride: 40 miles (64 km)
Total: 465 miles (748 km)
