Day 8 - crossed into France for 2 days

Now in Strasbourg

We are finally in France for 2 days including a rest day or better yet a laundry day.  The ride to here was again through farm country where we dodged many sprinklers or at least most.  The route was almost dead flat or even slightly downhill all the way.  It is a shame that another day wasn’t planned here so we could have deviated through the lovely Alsatian villages of Riquewihr, Kayserberg, Ribeauvillé or Dambach.  I looked at doing it myself but it would have made the ride 140+km.  Too much for one day especially if you want to stop and sightsee.

The route for today. Sadly we did not go west to the beautiful Alsatian villages of Kayersburg, Riquewihr, Ribeuaville or Barr.

One of several gun emplacements left from the Maginot Line of WWII. They didn’t work because they faced only west to Germany but the Germans came from the east after capturing Belgium.

We passed this swan family on the trail and the male was extremely aggressive. He stood up at Patti as she rode by and reached her head level. I walked by with my bike between me and him. He was not happy with us.

Carousels are in every French town or city. The cathedral tower is in the background.

We found this amazing wine store in the old town, It features many of the regions wineries and offers tastings. Each day they have one local grower there to show off their wines.
