Day 13 - Castles, castles and more castles

Mainz to Boppard

MToday we rode probably the most famous section of the Rhine. Starting in Ludwigshafen we are now in Boppard. The day was cool and we had a strong head wind but dry. This region is the classic area that you see on all of the river cruise TV ads. We passed the infamous lorely gorge where many a ship has met with a bad fate over the years. There are numerous castles in this stretch as you will see in the photos. We have a lovely hotel on the water tonight and we are enjoying it.

This small castle in the middle of the river was run by the tax collector for use of the river. If you didn’t pay your boat would be destroyed

We had to wait for our rooms so we enjoyed a cocktail or two on the River side lounge
