Day 1 - the trains to Oberalppass

The tour has begun with 4 train trips to Oberalppass from where the riding will begin tomorrow.  We are actually above what is considered the source of the Rhine but we will pass it tomorrow, I think.  The trains were uneventful except for a group of boisterous teenagers going for a 3 day trip to Andermatt.  Fortunately we were able to find another car for some peace and quiet.  Once in Oberalppass the main task was bike assembly and a little wander about.  The weather is ok and cooler which I don’t mind at all because it is going to be hot once we get down the mountain.  We are staying at the only place available which is kind of hostel living so Patti and I are sharing for 1 night with 2 other women.  Also the bathroom is down the hall.  It is clean and so far the food is good so it will be fine.

Our final train rounding the bend towards our destination.

We passed what looks like a 9 hole golf course on the way up.

Bill ShaneyfeltLooks a lot like North American monkeyflowers or Penstemons, but I found nothing for the Alps.

Gail JohnsonI loved the roads in Switzerland - every turn brought more eye-catching beauty. You certainly captured much of that in these photos.
