Another hike - lac de bordère

Today was a really fun hiking day in the high Pyrenees.  To start we had to drive the very narrow and twisting road up to the Porte de Balés another of the famous Tour de France climbs.  The road is closed through the week for repairs and we understand why after having driven it.  it is also supposed to be closed to cyclists all the time but some ignored that, and rode anyway.  Once at the top we found the trail head with a little help from some locals but then it was easy going.  We could hear the baaing sheep and tinkling bells in the distance.  We also came across a herd of grazing cattle and another of horses.  One of the cheeky teenage horses was very friendly and followed me along for a short distance thinking maybe there was food in my pack.  We reached the lake after 4.9 km and we sat an enjoyed out sandwich lunches.  The sun was out and it was a perfect temperature but we did hear one clap of thunder on the way back so I was happy that we weren’t any later in the day.   All in all it was a lovely day in the mountains and a 9.7km hike.  There are lots of photos today.

At the top of the climb.

One of many beautiful wild flowers that were along the path. I won’t even try to name them.

Here is our cheeky teenager following another hiker wanting to get in her pack. He did the same thing to me.

Linda took these photos of me with the teenage horse on the way up. He was very inquisitive and surely searching for food.
