Xi'an

OpenStreetMap shows that crossing Cuihua mountain over to Xi'an is possible. It includes a 10 km hike that would be tough with a bicycle, but I though I would try.

It turns out that they made the mountain into a park with a ticket offices and security on both sides. So I turned around even without asking them.

So I had to take the main roads. The last climb of the day took me to 2000 m above sea level. There I met 4 other cyclists who were taken to the top by car and who were riding down for the fun.

So we rode together all the way to the centre of Xi'an. A 55 km downhill ride that dropped 1600 m in elevation.

I was really tired after riding 971 km of mountainous roads in 9 days. (Another rider made a similar journey last year. 949 km in 21 days)

This is the third longest road tunnel in the world. It would have cut my journey by 5 hours, but it's closed to bicycles.
