Shanghai
Note that this is a non touring addendum to the journal.
The railway service handles checked luggage more like cargo - It goes onto different trains than the passenger. So I had to cope for one day without my bicycle. At least it's cheap: $9 to send it 800 km.
I am impressed by how orderly the traffic in Shanghai is: J walking is rare. So is vehicles traveling against the flow of traffic. Vehicles rarely honk. There are police officers at major intersections handing out fines.
I also surprised by the lack of bridges taking allowing motorcycles to cross the Hangpu River. So there are 4 or more ferry services.
On Thursday I flew to Hong Kong. There is a bicycle shop very close to the Maglev station. There I got a bicycle box with a height of 75 cm. It's just large enough for my bicycle, yet just small enough to go through the X-ray machine at the security.
Pudong Airport weirdly had security before you get to the check in desk. What would happen if you want to fly home with knifes as checked luggage ?
