In Roussillon
The Village and Le Sentier des Ocres
Spoiler alert - this is a photo dump! No cycling, just a walk though the abandoned ochre mines and the ochre-hued village of Roussillon.
Le Sentier des Ocres
The ochre mines lie at the edge of Roussillon and for a nominal fee of 3€ you can follow a footpath through acres of ochre formations that have been shaped by wind and erosion. I arrived at the park about five, as the crowds were thinning and the sun was casting long shadows on the towering rocks. I followed the red sand footpath as it wound up and down through the woods, past one panoramic viewpoint after another. I was mesmerized by the range of colors and formations, which I’ve tried to capture in the images below.

After leaving the park, I spent some time exploring Roussillon. My experience along the Ochre Footpath led to a focus on the colors, tones and shapes that I found in the old village.
Soon it was time to go back to the hotel to meet up with Janos and Suzanne for dinner. It had been an afternoon that exceeded my expectations, and added more "wows" to a tour brimming with superlatives.
