Munich - Pfaffenhofen
We said this is to be an open-end trip - which made it much harder to leave home than usual. All so vague. How long are we going to be gone, one month, two months, three? Where will we go after Berlin? But that's the way I wanted it, no deadlines. It turned out that we set goals and deadlines anyway and that goals and structure make our meanderings more meaningful.

Eventually we do get all the loose ends at home tied up and are ready. It isn't an early start, I think we finally get in the saddles around noon. Cold headwinds are also doing their best to keep us in Munich. In Schleissheim, not very far down the road, we decide to stop for a bite and finally relax. Hurrah, we're on our way, let's stop and celebrate!

The cold wind and unaccostumed weight of our panniers make it a tiring day. The countryside is at its best, bright greens of early summer, fields of young wheat, potato crops, rapeseed. When we pass through Petershausen we know if we forgot anything this is our last chance to make a quick dash back to Munich. Petershausen is the end of the line of the Munich city train.

In Pfaffenhofen we expect to find a hotel or B&B. There are several, but only one is open and is a bit pricey. A simpler Gasthaus not too far out of town is recommended and we find it very satisfactory.
