Siem Reap: Tourist program
The room in our lovely guesthouse is tiny and has no windows so we decide to move. How convenient it is to be travelling by bike. It's not difficult to scout around and soon we have found a guesthouse which we like better, a wee bit out of the busiest part of town. Tomorrow we will start our sightseeing program.
The young man running the 13th Villa Guesthouse where we are staying asks if we are interested in seeing a show of traditional Cambodian royal dance. We have the feeling this is going to be a tourist event and a very watered down version of the real thing but decide to give it a try. The performance takes place in a large, barn-like restaurant with stage, designed indeed to accommodate large tour groups. The food is nothing to write home about but the performance gives us a good idea of Cambodian classical and folk dance. It seems to have great similarities to classical Thai dance with many elements from its Indian counterpart.
