Social butterflies

Monday road ride

The YouTube yoga session on Monday mornings is my favorite start to the week. Our numbers have picked up lately. Six women and two men are here for today's session, most of them in the mountain biking group. This communal yoga practice is one of things I love about this park, a time to connect with other people as we figure out what our bodies need to deal with all we're subjecting them to.

Afterwards Barry and I drive out to join the Desert Trails road biking group for their Monday ride on on the Loop. I'm a social animal, happy to have someone else plan the agenda. This week's meeting spot is at the Kino Sports Complex, but like last time there are two parking lots and we're at the wrong one, along with Alice and Rob, the same people who were with us at the wrong lot last time. Eventually we all figure out where to go and find the rest of the group riding southeast on the Julian Wash path.

In the first mile we come upon a detour on a new path that runs along I-10, built to route cyclists away from construction of the new Mosaic Quarter sports complex. I'm glad to get a heads up about this one. We still plan to ride the big diamond-shaped loop this week; good to know about the detour ahead of time.

The temporary detour path around the Kino complex construction is smooth and wide. It would be fine if they make this the new permanent route.

We do a brisk out and back ride with Alice and Rob on their ebikes. On the way back we're lucky enough to get a Kelly sighting and stop to catch up with her. I miss the opportunity for a photo though. Ah well, hopefully next year.

The group meets back at Rudy's Barbecue for lunch where the portions are enormous. I really didn't need to eat that whole brisket sandwich but couldn't help myself.

One last little thrill for the day - a stop at REI. I've been alternating the same two pairs of Smartwool bike socks over and over for at least two years. Now it feels like they are studded with cactus spines that scratch at my ankles but I can't pick out the spines among all the little pills  that have developed. Time for new socks.

Tuesday on the Trails

I've been looking forward to another social ride with the Tuesday mountain bikers but missed the message that the start time has been moved up to 9:00. Rats.

At 9:30 we head out to do our own thing and have a pretty fun time on some easy trails with a few good climbs. We check out a couple of the easier trails near Kinney Road to see if they are gravel-bike friendly for tomorrow's ride over Gates Pass. They look fine.

A fine morning on the trails

Back in the trailer we're both awaiting  delivery of new Wahoo gps units. Barry is getting a replacement under warranty because his Wahoo Roam wouldn't turn on. To get a new one, he had to send them a video showing him twisting a screwdriver into the charging port of the old one so there's no doubt it's dead.

My Wahoo Bolt went missing last week so I've been burning up my phone battery using the RidewithGPS app to navigate. It was showing its age anyway since the buttons were wearing out. I've ordered a new Roam like Barry's, excited about the the bigger, easier-to-read display.

It's a weird coincidence that both units are arriving today. Barry's new Roam arrives first. Two hours later mine is here too!

Yay! It's here in time for tomorrow's ride up Gates Pass.
