Short and sweet
It's the weekend! We are taking it easy today. The morning is devoted to journaling and various housekeeping tasks. By the time we get it together to take the mountain bikes out it's 1:30 and getting warm.
Our last outing on Golden Gate Trail went pretty well so I suggest we give it another go. Barry shrugs, why not? It's a rocky trail, a challenge but not ridiculous. I'm somewhere between a beginner and intermediate. The steep rocky stuff still intimidates me. If I'm going to get any better at this I need the practice.
On the way out there we are mostly on easy gravel that's fun to ride. Gradually the trail gets more technical. Once we turn right on Golden Gate the rocks get chunkier and the hills get a bit more steep and twisty.
A quarter mile in on it Barry stops and turns the bike around. This is not what he came for today. He's right of course. We have a big ride on the docket tomorrow; this is supposed to be an easy day. I follow him back where we came from and settle down for a chill return to the park. We get in eight miles, good enough.
In the evening I walk down to the Rec Hall for an unusual event - readings by the writers group. Their stories are an entertaining mix of humor, adventure and memoir. Three of them have published books and all are skilled at their craft. I've attended a few of their weekly meetings. Making a note here to spend more time with this inspiring group next year.
Today's ride: 8 miles (13 km)
Total: 671 miles (1,080 km)
