Cougar Rollers

I'm inching closer to catching up on the journal here, going to make this a quick one...

We're dawdling this morning, waiting for a warm up. Once the temperature makes it into the 50s, Barry and I take off on the trails. I've pulled up a track that we did with the group here last year. It will be the longest trail ride so far this year, and a good challenge.

The trails we always take north from the RV park feel easier now, warming us up for the tougher stuff. Things get more interesting when we get to the big rocky parts on Brown Mountain Trail. Barry is fearless on this trail. I still have trust issues.

The mountain bikers call this spot Death Valley. Barry just charged down that rock pile. I don't have the nerve for it yet.

Mountain biking is an efficient workout for me, compressing more effort into less time than a road ride. On the steep rocky climb up to Cougar Trail I get winded and have to stop a few times to catch my breath.

Barry is sporting his new knee pads for the first time today. They turned out to be a good thing when he slipped on a hill and tumbled backward, landing on his knees. No damage!

Once we reach Cougar the real fun starts. It has a long series of rollers that we  bomb up and down, and no big piles of rocks to trip me up. Taking these fast builds my confidence to keep up my speed on the descent back down.

Rachael AndersonGreat scenery but I’d be walking a trail like this if I wasn’t worried about getting hit by a mountain bike.
