It sure was great to explore places when they were not crowded!

Just to keep things in perspective, everyone with a journal will have contributed to reaching this milestone, so congratulations to all those folks!

I did a two night/two day tour on of the Great Allegheny Passage trail during a COVID "lull" in 2021 and found those things to be true, but each advantage came with a downside:

  1. Fewer workers and volunteers were available to keep facilities and attractions maintained or even open.
  2. The crowds riding on the GAP trail were essential to a lot of restaurants in trail towns staying open on weekdays, or even at all.
  3. Ditto (2) for lodging choices, and also rules of "no linen service for short stay" showing up.

But, post COVID (1) has been more than compensated for, at least on the GAP and C&O Canal Towpath - a lot of pent up energy and funds got applied to great progress in improvements/maintenance.

Not so much on financial disputes - the ferry at White's Ferry on the Towpath is still closed...

I've just added #998.  Just one more to go before someone gets the coveted One Triple Zero designation...

Alright, people - If you wanted to grab the LAST 3-digit journal number, you're TOO LATE! I just locked up 999.

Now, if you were waiting in the wings for the 1000th journal, the race is on.

*munches popcorn in anticipation*

Well darn. Our next trip was scheduled to kick off on August 8 and normally today would have been when we would have posted the first of our "lead up" pages, so we COULD have legitimately been the 1000th Blog. However  since our trip has been moved to a later start date of August 27th and we will only begin it online on the 20th or so, we have left the coveted 1000th spot to another CB'er.
