Sorry she’s gone, but she has earned her rest. I found her books inspiring.
Thank you for passing this on, Andrea. One of my personal heroes.
An old friend, with whom I've recently reestablished contact after a gap of two decades, sent me a copy of Full Tilt a couple months ago, which was my introduction to Ms. Murphy. All I can say is "WOW".
Time waits for no one. She didn't wait for time. Thanks for showing us the road ahead.
Reading Dervla’s book 1965 book “Full Tilt”about her remarkable cycle tour through Europe, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, reignited my interest in cycle touring. Her writing style is very engaging.
Vale Dervla Murphy. Your life was well lived and you’ve left a great legacy.
Thanks, Graham and Andrea. Yes, we've lost a good one, an original and an inspiration. What an innings she had! There was a good tribute in the Guardian yesterday: https://www.theguardian.com/tr...
I remember reading in the local papers of her journey through Southern Africa in the early/mid 1980s, and feeling humbled, intrigued, and inspired.
Thank YOU, John, the Guardian obituary was wonderful. In it I discovered that Michael Palin had made a documentary about her. It can be viewed on demand here:

Some of you may already know about the legendary Dervla Murphy, an Irish cycle tourist pioneer who went all over the world and had amazing adventures. Sadly, she passed away yesterday. You can read about her life here:

Her books are well worth a read, she's a matter-of-fact heroine.
