If I came to your house... (page 2)

The bicycle sculpture in front of my house is somewhat well known.

If I was home, The Red Bike aka Thorn Audax would be parked just inside the front door. Fortunately we have a very wide entry foyer which can comfortably house my commuter bike.

So that’s where it lives when it’s not being ridden, which is most days. It’s very convenient to be able to easily access the bike near the front door, as I use it frequently for grocery shopping, recreational rides and training rides.

Hmm. In the townhouse we sold last year (that we’d lived in for over 30 years), you’d have had to look around a bit. We finally got rid of the overflow bikes hanging and rusting in the carport. We didn’t want to keep anything we cared about out there due to the damp and the dirt blown around by the gardeners and their leaf blowers (the disadvantage of living in a strata where owners don’t need to to their own yard work).

Open the securely-licked shed and find up to 7 bikes hanging inside, along with a track pump, two car bike racks, a bike-specific tool box, etc. Hope you don’t need to get out whichever bike is in the back corner.

Step into the house and watch out for bike shoes and helmets near the entry. If you go upstairs. be sure to look up and see a road bike suspended vertically in the stairwell. If you were brave enough to use the attic pull-down stairs, you could find two old road bikes in the far corner.

Quick exit and head down to ghd basement.  As soon as our younger son moved out, we installed 3 wall mounts for lighter bikes.  Two hang vertically and one is horizontal, high enough to have a heavier bike leaning on the wall below. In the closet, various panniers and other gear, while the desk that was too big to move holds more.

Shake your head and think, “These people sure have a lot of bikes!”

Your distance tree is brilliant.  We need a like button for forum posts.

Thanks Scott, it seemed a nice use of the tree we lost.

I too have thought it would be nice to "like" posts.

Thanks, Keith. We are hoping we won’t need to be so creative in our new place, nor need to carry bikes up and down narrow staircases.

Well, in the old place it was gracious of the bikes to share their space with you.  :)
