Howdy

John Pickett

I just wanted to take a moment to say hello.

Back in 2003 I started posting tour journals on Crazy Guy. I stopped touring for a decade. When I started up again in 2015, I posted about my trips on my blog, Rootchopper.com.

I've been meaning to convert those blog posts into proper online journals ever since the pandemic put a stop to my touring. So, having recently discovered this site, I made a journal of the posts from one my recent trips and was promptly banished from Crazy Guy.

I thanks Neil and wished him well.

Over the last few weeks I've been busy constructing journals from the rest of my blog posts as well as converting my three Crazy Guy journals to this site. (Neil had long ago made copies for me.)

The process was a bit tedious, mostly because I sometimes compressed the images on my blog posts. These had to be replaced by larger images one at a time. (If you ride across Utah you'll want people to see properly sized images. Trust me.)

The text of my CGOAB journals (which I had a copy of) converted relatively quickly. The file size of those photos were smaller (having been made long ago) so they uploaded faster as well.

Long story short, I now have seven journals on this site.

There is a distinct difference in writing styles. The old journals were written either after my tours from detailed notes I took during each ride or on a PocketMail device with a built-in modem.  The latter journals were written on a cell phone each night during the tours. I'm afraid the quality of writing is roughly proportional to the size of the device I used.

I now have a deep appreciation for how advances in communications technology have improved the touring experience.

Regardless, I hope you all find them entertaining and useful.

G'day John

Welcome to CycleBlaze. I have been reading your journals as you post them. Keep it up.

BTW "cuzzie" Jon and I am not closely related.
