I think the sign refers to a $100 fine for overnight parking. I doubt the town has a process to charge $100 for people who want to spend the night there.
10 months agoI carry earplugs but don't like using them. They tend make my inner ears all sweaty, and then I hear noises in my sinuses.
10 months agoThe climate is quite arid and the frost-free growing season is very short. I suspect people abandoned farms because the farms were not successful. Same as in the Great Plains.
10 months agoHow long had you owned your Speed Ross? Hopefully you got many years out of it...
10 months agoGood thing your bike frame didn't break much earlier in the trip! Also good of your wife to drive 500 miles to come pick you up in Chelan.
10 months agoWow, overnight parking - - $100??!
10 months agoDo you wear earplugs when you camp to drown out any traffic noise, etc.?
10 months agoOne-stop shopping for you in downtown Tonasket! :)
10 months agoI hadn't heard of that recumbent - looked it up online, and evidently the builder (Bill Haluzak) stopped making those bikes in 2007 due to difficulty in getting Shimano parts.
10 months agoI wonder why there were so many abandoned homesteads? I wonder what caused people to leave Wauconda?
10 months agoWow, even FREE camping at the hiker/biker site! Wonderful!
10 months agoWow, there are not many FREE ferries out there - you were fortunate!
10 months agoOh, yea, a very rough road like that could damage your bike frame - yikes! :(
10 months agoThat "unimproved" gravel road sure looks rough! :/

I used the Speed Ross for 10 years, from 1998 to 2007. It was semi-custom built in Cornwall, England by a very elderly frame builder (Peter Ross) who was a WW2 veteran. He sold his bicycle business shortly after I bought the bike, so I didn't bother to make a claim. I'm satisfied with 10 years. The newer Bacchetta bike has a MUCH stronger connection between the chainstay and the monotube.
