Good luck with your move! Looking forward to reporting from your new neighborhood.
2 years agoThat cemetery is indeed fascinating! Out here in western Canada, many cemeteries don't permit markers that aren't flush with the turf so the mowers can go right across them.
2 years agoLol, just realised I managed to confuse myself completely there! (it's been a busy week). Haha yes - the village is full of these Victorian brick houses packed together (and unfortunately right up against the road). We have a "courtyard" of sorts out back, but it's not huge.
2 years agoYep - a lot less people back then! Space in ancient graveyards like these is now at a huge premium - very difficult to get buried there now.
2 years agoTiny yard.
2 years agoOh I'm fully initiated into that part of the ceremony. It's up with getting drinking water from graveyards for me.
2 years agoThanks Gregory - glad it's an enjoyable read!
It's a bit of a stream of consciousness this one as we relocate. I'm hoping to add in my exploratory rides once we reclaim the bikes in what will be our new local area - Cornwall's pretty spectacular so hopefully should satisfy my touring bug.
(if all else fails, it has a lot of bizarre and amusing place names, so that should add some interest).
Doh! I don’t know how that one slipped my mind. 🙄 But, you’re welcome. That little bit of wisdom has stuck with me a long time now.
2 years agoHi Kathleen, thanks for the plug on Jon's comment section. It's probably for the best that you didn't mention the weirder part of my "focus on the little things" theory--the part about the Church of the Great Outdoors Peeing Ceremony.
2 years agoI saw your new journal today. I like reading the first page of a new journal because it helps me decide whether or not I want to continue reading it. I want to continue reading "Go West . . . etc." because I enjoyed your introduction and I think England is a cool country.
So here I am with a complimentary comment and, while reading the other comments, I noticed they were written at least a month ago. Sorry I missed the debut.
I also noticed my name in one of them. I was amazed that anybody actually remembered anything I ever wrote. Along with several other Cycleblazers, I've been communicating with Kathleen for a long time--since the days when Crazyguyonabike/Bicycle Life was a cool place to be.
Anyway, as she said, I am an advocate of focusing on the little things, but I'm also an advocate of touring locally. It's good for you and good for the environment.
Sounds good Scott! With a bit of luck we'll be installed in Cornwall when you come to the UK. Though I can't make any guarantees on my mechanical skills...
2 years agoThanks Rachael! I'm always a bit wary of my "fixes" - I was particularly surprised the shifting worked without any more trouble. Fingers crossed it won't decide to fail on tour when I'm away from a drill!
2 years agoVery impressive. Consider yourself invited along when we visit the UK this summer.
2 years agoYou are so clever! Hope no problems develop later.

Very satisfying. When we moved last year, we had an old desk we wanted hauled away. The hauler just kicked it apart. It was mostly particle board and laminate, but still. I was just glad to see it go.
