Sorry we never wrote to thank you for the wonderful lunch meet up. Everything seemed to fall apart later in the day. Thanks for the insights into the quirks of French restaurants and food laws. It is always fun for us to speculate, but even better when we have actual information.

Hi,
Great to see you Thursday last. And we sorry to hear about Steve’s contretemps. It will get better as you go….
About bistros: your speculation about the ordering of food before a service is probably correct. The chef guesses what will be needed, and if it runs out, too bad. As for cooking tartare? Never! For one thing the meat is diced differently than hamburger grind, and secondly it’s seasoned, and would not taste good if cooked. Steve will never know this since tartare is as far from carbonized as one can get.
Another thing: it is a requirement of French law that meat’s origins be posted. Also, homemade items need to be labeled as well. Any one caught cheating would be in legal trouble, and probably lose business as a result. Food is serious business in France!
Cheers,
Keith

If “rain” means train I would maybe give it credit for a half day off considering possible stress involved. Choo choo!!!

Agreed Keith! Fun on a bike can take a “rest day”..It may even perk up the Grampies after all!

That would be telling......It's ok , not too much more drama ensues.

We aren't very good at taking days off. We get easily bored. We ARE taking the rain tomorrow though, does that count?

So impressed how you two carry despite the injury and illness. Think you deserve a day or two off to recuperate.

What a pity it is a great ride. As far as south of Lyon I would suggest taking a train to Vieene - look at our latest journal and you will see what it is like South of there on the Via Rhona is really fantastic

I was hurrying to fit into a gap in traffic, so that was an unintended benefit - no traffic just then. Swarm of bystanders would then have fended off any arriving cars.

If I could read these last two entries out loud to Joni she would have tutted and questioned whether you were having fun. I would argue you ARE having fun, but it’s the famous type II fun which is mostly fun once you are through it!

Of course that is my favourite type of fun in any case.

Keep feeding mom the blue pills! Is there anything to be done for shoulder separation other than rest and then rehab? Presumably riding your bike for another month+ would not be on the approved PT list. Hah.

Asaaargh bad dad! Or right foot of dad at least. I’m hoping as I move on to the next page I will hear that it is dramatically better.

At least you didn’t fall into traffic?
