1 month agoMerci for your explanation! As an American married to a person of 🇫🇷 descent, I don’t always understand terms, yet, to my knowledge I should have known better having understood Latin in Catholic schooling. 😬

Gallus, the Latin word for coq, is a pun on Gaule, Latin for what is now France. The coq has been used since early medieval times, when they still spoke Latin here, and probably reflects that. Or so I’ve been told.
