Those tree leaf color changes are really impressive :)

We are glad to hear thst by 2018 the route was good up to Verdun. We last cycled this way in 2015 and things deteriorated after Charleville-Mezieres. We are hoping the route has been improved all the way to Langres, at the source. Fingers crossed.

Reading of those towns reminds me of cycling the Meuse in 2018. It’s an interesting route. The trail was pretty good as far as Verdun, though I think dedicated paths were a little intermittent. At Verdun we decided we needed a change of scene and headed over to Strasbourg. Will be interested to see how the rest of the trail goes. Enjoying your observations. Kia kaha! Michael.

Being a retired explosives safety guy, the cannon firing brought back memories! "Fire in the hole!" is yelled front, then back, then left then right, or whatever order just before touching it off.

I've been away for a few days and am just catching up. When I saw this page, I was saddened. I tried to think of something profound to say, but all I can come up with is to double down on everything all your other Cycleblaze friends have already said.

Traditional coffee dunkers, or essential provisions for embarking on a long sea voyage.

More like the smaller, less expensive ones.

These look like animal crackers. The originals, perhaps?

Hi,
Coque is a type of clam, or a case for your cell phone, but in this case I’d go for clam, which the biscuits slightly resemble. They make good coffee “dunkers”. I haven’t run across them since the last time I was in Dînant or vicinity, but the locals swear by them. The traditions pain d’épices of Dijon is also rock hard, so there must have been a fad in the nineteenth century for long lasting coffee associated biscuits.
Cheers,
Keith

The real question is more like "how did that dog get up there? ". That cliff face is really steep, like almost vertical!
