Such a great experience. I have benefited many times from similar unsolicited volunteer help while navigating train stations. I have also not been shy about asking for help when I'm in dire straits. Don't be shy about asking for help, I find most folks are more than willing to help out.
6 months agoWhat a game changer this story is! Help, Sunshine, Trains be damned ( but necessary) and chocolate ! :)
6 months agoHuh, google lens suggested a restart but we were too tired to think properly and never considered it might be female, just that it was not red enough. Thanks for the correction.
6 months agoIt was so kind, and they just appeared, grabbed our stuff, asked what track we were going to and headed off. I must admit to a fleeting thought that we might never see our bikes or gear again but it was only a brief thought. Honestly, we would never gave have been able to do it on our own.
6 months agoBeautiful shot! I think she’s more likely a female black redstart though.
6 months agoGreat news about the help in the train station. People can be so kind.
6 months agoIt is probably an acquired taste, that we have not really acquired.
6 months agoRain does indeed mean train. Thanks so much Spellchecker. We probably can only claim a 2 hour credit, since there was nothing restful about getting on to the train! The resting only lasted the 2 hours of the trip itself!!
6 months agoSorry we never wrote to thank you for the wonderful lunch meet up. Everything seemed to fall apart later in the day. Thanks for the insights into the quirks of French restaurants and food laws. It is always fun for us to speculate, but even better when we have actual information.
6 months agoI do too. Boudin aux pommes is yummy
6 months agoHi,
Great to see you Thursday last. And we sorry to hear about Steve’s contretemps. It will get better as you go….
About bistros: your speculation about the ordering of food before a service is probably correct. The chef guesses what will be needed, and if it runs out, too bad. As for cooking tartare? Never! For one thing the meat is diced differently than hamburger grind, and secondly it’s seasoned, and would not taste good if cooked. Steve will never know this since tartare is as far from carbonized as one can get.
Another thing: it is a requirement of French law that meat’s origins be posted. Also, homemade items need to be labeled as well. Any one caught cheating would be in legal trouble, and probably lose business as a result. Food is serious business in France!
Cheers,
Keith
If “rain” means train I would maybe give it credit for a half day off considering possible stress involved. Choo choo!!!
6 months agoAgreed Keith! Fun on a bike can take a “rest day”..It may even perk up the Grampies after all!
6 months agoThat would be telling......It's ok , not too much more drama ensues.
