I can't remember when you said you were returning to Valencia. If it's mid-March, you may want to see the Fallas (pronounced FY-us) festival. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valencia_Fallas
We saw a smaller (and probably less crazy but still very impressive version) in nearby Xativa (60 km to the south). Tall sculptures, many political or sardonic, parade around, each plaza gets theirs, and at midnight, they all go up in flames. This is a 'plan ahead' event, I'm sure hotels are booked months before so if it interests you, act accordingly. Xativa is a nice town on its own, I thought, even though our rental car got towed there. There was a fallas depicting a tow truck so that should have tipped us off.
Your guide was the first person I've ever heard of named Anais except for Anais Nin. I wonder if her parents were French or Spanish bohemians.
Anyway, you're right about most northerners getting ready for hibernation when the cold temps move in. All I can say is: don't join them! Bundle up, put on knobby tires, and ride.
Nice tour, Grampies!
I think it’s a little more directed than that. I think they’re posted at identified spots where cattle are driven.
1 year agoSo true about November being an awful month weather wise. Ah well, in 3 months we can return.
1 year agoAha, have heard of them but never saw one. The market is overwhelming in terms of quantity and quality of the stuff on offer. We absolutely adore the food markets, so vibrant and colourful.
1 year agoI wouldn’t want to come home now either. November is the worst month weather-wise in BC.
Early in my working life, I went to Mexico for a two-week vacation in November. A fellow I chatted with suggested I should “call in healthy” and not go back.
I showed Jacinto, then I asked google. Crawdads! They are in the ditches in Colorado. It's slow going to make a meal. We've also eaten a crawfish boil in Louisiana.
I love all of the food photos.
They still delight us, but of course we don't have to live with them.
1 year agoNot sure if the cattle are actually free to roam at will, but maybe they can be moved accross the road from one pasture to another-so watch out for them.
1 year agoMonk parakeets from South America. Once upon a time, they were a delight in Spain, but, like so many other invasive species, have more recently become highly disliked.

Could you add in more details about your decision making process on not only deciding to store the bikes, but how you decided on this particular place? I can see the attraction, in general, and not just for e bikes.
1 year agoThe equivalent of open range signs in the western USA?
1 year agoLooks yummy! We had some great paella when we were in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago at the end of our cruise (I think you guys were there at the same time!)
1 year agoWe definitely thought so. Wide streets, lots of tree plantings and great bicycle infrastructure.

I remember coming home in November after a few months in the sun and I don't envy how you will feel returning to our very very wet coast! Lunch soon when you've rested up?
