Jen Rahn commented on 500 Miles Away from Home

This was a great morning for sending my imagination to Thailand.

Your descriptions and fascination with everyday life always make it easy and fun to jump into your experience!

I will be thinking about the story that the cow will tell you about its friend being killed by a falling coconut.

That's the first belt tattoo I've seen.

It's so cool that it may be the single reason some of your readers switch over to a belt drive bike.

I'm so sorry I missed this call!

It feels good to be beaming my attention to this beautiful place as I catch up on the journal.

Yeah, I paint houses. You got a house you want painted?

Also, you've mentioned that you used to paint houses, but until the post, it never occured to me that maybe you meant you used to "paint houses".

Clot of testosterone! Yeah, I admire people who are out there riding, however they are doing it but wouldn't be up for the social overload and competitiveness of a group tour. I'm lucky I can stand myself.

It was fun to talk to you mid-ride and mid-road. Technology has some benefits!

I keep saying I'm gonna get an actual tat of the calf chain one of these days.

Ron Suchanek commented on Preferring Nothingness to Weirdness

"When I'm in a place where I feel what I felt when I watched the film, The Last Picture Show, I come alive"

I couldn't have articulate that as well as you, but yeah, that! So many of the small towns we passed through during Porridge have me that feeling. I appreciate the empty. Paper Moon had a similar feeling for me.

I understand what you're saying about the heat and traveling to that part of the world. And it's a bit sad to think you might be winding this chapter up.
But the optimist in my says that time might alter your perspective. And, even if SE Asia might be phased out of your future travel plans (ok, I admit to some skepticism!😀), the world is full of places to see.

I agree. It's galling that he decided to deface all of this nature presumably for his, and only his, own enlightenment.
