Lou likes to know what you read but would probably not stop to read.

I just find it interesting, maybe because I'm a land surveyor.
Loved the compass.

What a let down.

I can't believe Kerry didn't turn around so you could get a picture.

As I thought about that campsite on the Klobuchar ride, it was at the Cook city park and not in Orr. Same ambience, however.

If the information you found displayed on top of a difficult climb is not available on-line, then it was probably worth the effort to struggle to the top of the viewpoint and read the panels. This information was rarer and more valuable than something you can just find on Wikipedia.

On the other hand, now that you have posted it in your blog, it can no longer be considered rare and valuable information. Any couch potato can now read about it with minimal effort.

I rarely read the signs... unless it's something that I'm personally interested in. I was more interested in the photos on these signs than what information was actually there.

Both are correct! Some (like my wife) pass info. signs without slowing down. Others (like me) like to take the time to soak up info.

I'm on Team Jeanna for this one! A little bit of roadside info signs goes a lot way for me. As a life long east-coaster, viewpoints or info signs about big holes in the ground are at the bottom of my personal list...

I vote yes for the interpretive panels. As long as I can read them. I always want to know more about the history and the people of the areas I/you/we bike tourers pass through. Sorry, Jeanna.

Lou,
I tell Jeanna that I want stop and watch the train, but what I really want is to just take a break. However, it is a good senility test. I figure as long as I can count to one hundred (or more) without losing track, I'm not there yet.

Counting train cars that are passing seems to be a rather busy job!

Nice! I know of few better feelings than just beating out a rainstorm like this.

I know that campsite. I stayed there while on a ride with Jim Klobuchar years ago. Your description matches identically with what I share about it to this day.

Your picture above shows a car angle parked in front of the Maco building. I notice all the cars in the mural are parallel parked. Maybe it's easier to draw them that way.
