Like you two we stayed at the Egg hotel I had been a bit concerned about it but we found although basic it worked so well very cheap, a good sized basic room, close to the lovely downtown, good bike storage and a wonderful receptionist who gave us perfect directions to get on the London Paris cycle route. (much better than the TI did) Often we find when touring we want a hotel which is functional not cute or atmospheric where we can just get on with our own things

I know, how does that keep happening?
6 years agoLooks like just the sort of route we’re always finding.
6 years agoWe think this new veloroute du Lin may spare us a lot of hills. We are excited to see what it does, tomorrow.
6 years agoYes, yummy as it is, we had to dispose of half of it tonight. Two days on the bike and it got too ripe and smelly! 200 grams for 3.80 euros was a good deal, I thought. Way cheaper than in Canada.

6 years agoglad you got to appreciate Alain. Yes the Normandy Bridge is a challenge! The ride into the city after it too - our problem was that we couldnt find the way over the railway to our hotel which was in the centre
Keep safe and enjoy the hills of Normandy

You are in Normandy just at the right time.
Green isn't it.
May be it is not too late to look for caramels d'Isigny.

Have stayed twice at that hotel in Carbourg. The second time for 2 nights because of torrential rain. Such lovely people running it he of course is a very keen cyclist. Good luck with the upcoming hills.

We are finding this section of our trip both interesting and very moving, since for us it is still the history of our parents' generation. Glad you are still along for the ride.
6 years agoMr. Steve, I really enjoyed this one (& all the others) since 3 of my siblings where in WW2 but not here.. My other hobby is air craft from that era.. I really enjoy your and Dodies many travels over the years..
6 years agoNice picture! We miss you guys, but keep having fun, we’re enjoying it by proxy...
6 years agoHi Steve and Dodie
I first visited M St M about 25years ago with our daughter Jane we were able to soak the whole thing up with just comfortable crowds and spent most of a day there. On our ride from London to Lisbon ken and I returned Got into the main gates and the crowds of tourist groups enveloped us. We thought we just couldnt bear it so turned around and rode back to our camping ground ! (we must have been young and mobile then to be camping)
I feel for Dodie's struggle with the stairs on our trip last year I really had to stay put when we reached our hotel but this year will be a new person and be able to explore on foot. It is amazing how forgiving cycling is to aging bodies

We found we could have this at the restaurant next door to our hotel - but too expensive. Maybe we can save money by just adding salt. If we use Noirmoutier salt, it could be pretty good!

Yes, we like the bike storage room and the receptionist too. Also the desk, which is great for blogging. The room is actually bigger than some. Last night we found we had no room to put two of our four pannier bags down! Fortunately we were the only ones in residence and we put them in the hall!
6 years agoAs I wrote, I was surprised to find the downtown intact!
We have been trying to read your blog a bit to see what is coming. But now, though we could get on the London-Paris for a bit, it seems best to continue up the coast until turning at the Somme and heading for Amiens.
