Thanks, Greg! Here's the link again that I also posted in the other comment:

I have great admiration for the craftsmanship of those woodcarvers who went into strict apprenticeships at an early age.
I never heard of Aloysius Lang but Oberammergau has a strong tradition in wood carving. I found this in the internet: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alois_Lang

I would like to join the Vacationist League to breathe more vitalizing copper air. Where do we sign up?
5 months agoCome to think of it, I wish I did too. Maybe I can get in there for a photo of them before I leave town this morning. Are you familiar with Aloysius Lang of Oberammergau?
5 months agoUnfortunately, no it's not.
5 months agoI don't know the answer, but I bet they're cross-country ski trails. I see they're adjacent to Michigan Tech, and that's a reasonably flat area around there.
5 months agoTrue, I've learned quite a bit about the dangers miners had to face over the last couple days.
5 months agoI'd have to agree with you on Michigan drivers moving over for bikes. We're in Indianapolis now and I've noticed that the vast majority of bikes on the trails are regular pedal bikes. I mean, why would you need an e-bike here - it's totally flat riding!!
5 months agoI wish you had a picture of the wood carvings.
5 months agoNot much of a rest day, but thank you for the tour. That was a seriously big, steep hill. Very interesting, though, and from that overlook of town, gosh, there really are a whole bunch of view-blockers there!
5 months agoIs the "amphidrome" still around?
5 months agoSo at the end of this journal, I think we need a summary ranking of pasties consumed and the pros and cons of each.
5 months agoYes, we have all gotten soft as a society. The folks back in the day were very hardy! The whole e-bike, pickleball and 'camping' in a vehicle that includes everything including the kitchen sink and washer and dryer... is further proof, IMO.

Sorry, but the by-laws of the Vacationist League specifically require Upper Peninsula citizenship for all members. But you can still come to the Copper Country as a guest to breathe that pure air.
