That looks delicious! What are the ball-shaped things?

Because you are reading our journal and making such wonderful and insightful comments Andrea and I find ourselves rereading sections to see exactly what you are commenting on. This leads us to reading more and a thorough reliving of our nearly perfect trip two years ago occurs. Thank you for taking the time to dive into our journal to such an extent. Your comments mean a lot to us.

I love that you and your fellow van passengers were equally irritated by the loud-talking woman.

And that you and the little girl played hide-and-seek.

Most unpleasant experiences include at least a few pleasant or neutral components .. We just have to "chill" enough to be able to see them.

What you said about there being risk in everything we do is too-often ignored. That van ride seems a lot less scary than imagining what happens to the human body that is subjected to daily doses of work-related stress or excessive exposure to mass media manufactured hysteria .

We figure the more valuable cargo aboard the less dangerously the driver will drive but that is probably intentional delusion.

I have not tasted it but gotten brief whiffs of it. They say it's delicious if you can get past the stench. There are lots of "No Durian" signs in guesthouses, that should tell you something.

Oh, that looks like a mellow-diminishing situation.

Not sure about that guy .. I'd be afraid of him being too aggressive with the iron.

How would you describe the odor of durian?

Have you ever tasted it?

From Wikipedia's description, I'm not sure I would be brave enough to try it.

I wish the horse statue at the Denver airport looked more like this one.

The Denver horse statue is diabolical and many refer to it as Old Meth.

Jen Rahn commented on Final Thoughts on Vietnam

The memory that popped into my head about family vacations was stopping at rest areas to eat bologna sandwiches that my mom wrapped in wax paper. Going on a picnic wherever I happen to be is still one of my favorite things. I will always remember a roadside snack attack with Ron & Gay .. and a man stepping out of an old RV parked next to an abandoned school house .. The owner of the RV came out and told us about his plans to fix up the school house (which he had purchased) and offered us some cold water.

What a great summary of your trip! So cool that you went to Vietnam with a open minds despite negative stories you heard from other travelers. And incredible that you were welcomed with such kindness and generosity, regardless of any verbal communication challenges.

Thanks also for sharing your thoughts about some of the experiences that you found difficult, too.

And for wrapping up with Truong Khanh's smile! One of my favorite photos from the trip!

Thank you for all your wonderful comments, Jen. Yes, Ha Tien was the perfect place to not only end our time in Vietnam but to stay a few days and ponder all that we had seen and experienced. It's also a great jumping off point into Cambodia only a few miles away. A wonderful part of the world for sure.
