And I totally agree with Ron on what she must be thinking.
The Nazis knew they needed a lot of luck so they appropriated the symbol that, for Asians, had denoted good luck for centuries.

5 years agoThank you, Ron and Jen, for your generous comments. I was quite affected by knowing what happened in this place we were riding through. But yes, as you say, it's good the birds are singing and people are smiling again. All I can offer is a peaceful smile but if that helps the healing process even in a tiny way it's certainly worth doing.
5 years agoThe Nazis turned it the other direction. This version of the swastika is an important part of Buddhism, so this Catholic church has been de-sanctified and is now a Buddhist building, as far as we can discern.
