Gouffre de Padirac! I read about it on someone's journal on the other site and added it to my must-see list for French Fling. It was a highlight for sure and I'll go a second time if/when I'm in the area again.

Gouffre de Padirac is one of those places you have to experience ‘in person’. So great that you had the place almost to yourselves. That will have added another level to the already great experience. We were there on the Accession day holiday last May and there were at least 8,000 people there, still great though. Thanks for sharing!

Misread the numbers in your text above. Still wishing you a very happy one, and a retroactive welcome to your 8th decade.

You've got me wondering now too! Not a huge budget, I suspect, as the western approach to Col de Peyresourde was being patched with chipseal this spring, rather than hot-mix asphalt. It might have been different if this were to be a descent for the Tour rather than a climb.

Maybe it was his birthday also, and he thought your tender unexposed meat was his birthday gift!

Happy Birthday Kathleen! And what a memorable way to celebrate -you certainly didn't need another 2km to prove you rock. The ride brought back great memories of cycling through one of my favorite regions of France
