Stan, I enjoyed reading your post. You did a great job with your descriptions.
Thanks for taking me on the adventure, thru your journaling.
yes. finished the 14th. We heard some rumbling and then there was an alert on the phone about the tremor. didn't feel it.
Glad you were able to relive your trip. We followed a lot of different roads and stayed at different places than I did 10 years ago.
You’re almost done! I had figured that the ride would end in San Diego today (Monday). Did you feel the earthquake?!? The epicenter of it was in the town of Julian, where we stayed in 2019 the day before finishing in San Diego. It seems like you just started in St. Augustine! Time flies when you’re having fun (sounds like something Johnny G would say…) Anyway, it was fun to follow your journey and remember places seen along the way!😀🐦🐤👏🌵🌲🍨🍩🍦🚴♂️

Hi Stan, Looks like you are headed through the sand dunes on Friday! When we went through there in 2019, there was a large group of 5th graders and chaperones biking through the dunes area on a five day biking field trip across part of the state. Maybe tomorrow you’ll be headed into the mountains to the west and possibly biking on Evan Hewes Highway. I remember that road had more potholes than I had ever seen on any road. Worst road of the trip! Maybe they have improved it since then… We avoided it by taking a pass a little to the north in 2019… In a few days, you’ll have a nice long downhill into San Diego! 🌞🚴🌞
6 days agoStan, It's good to see you're still making forward progress! I got a text yesterday from my grandson in Clovis, New Mexico and they had snow. Did you get caught in any of it? I know you were more south. It's cool to hear about all the birds you're seeing. Stay safe! MS
1 week agoHi Stan - I just got caught up on your journal since Austin. Texas is certainly long. I don’t remember as much head wind as you had every day and since we were inside every night didn’t feel the cold as much s as you. I loved getting into New Mexico and Arizona and it’s been a fun afternoon reading your time there and getting it all back! Lots of cool birds for sure. Thanks for sharing them all. I’ll try to keep up a little better! In the meantime safe riding! C
1 week agoYes. it is a beautiful area. There were some bits over 5% so sometimes harder. definitely in AZ
1 week agoI remember going over that pass with Marlene, who joined me for the New Mexico part of my trip in 2010. Even though it was a long climb, it didn’t seem as tough as we had expected. Lots of curves and nice scenery. You must be in Arizona by now!
1 week agoHey, Stan, I hope you are ok. I’m missing your blog. Ride safe.
2 weeks agoI'm sorry about the dog. I chalk it up to a lousy owner. Jeremy, I suspect that folks out there feel they have 4 legged protection. I've seen enough rescued dogs to convince me there are a lot of uncaring owners out there. Agreed, glad to know that Stan is healthy and didn't end up as a hood ornament.
2 weeks agoThanks Margaret. I don't think we will have mornings that aren't cold until Phoenix
3 weeks agoStan, I've been following you across. I'm assumong you're past the cold mornings and cold hands but I am bringing a pair of gloves for you in September that don't fit me. They're yours if they fit. They're neon yellow so visible!
Stay safe!
Margaret S
thanks @suzanne. I am happy to hear you enjoyed it
