Janice Branham commented on Bilbao's bonny buildings and bars

I'd come back here again. It's a confortable city, pleasant to walk, lots to see.

These have that feature. It's very nice once you figure out how to operate them, which took me a while.

Modern European windows are very nice. I've been particularly impressed at the type that can either tilt inward OR hinge vertically to open more fully, depending on which way you turn the handle.

It was a big day for sure. With the benefit of few days of recovery, the views stand out most in memory.

Love, love your “militant optimism,” which is really being tested. I get the feeling that there may be a travel book in the future for this marvelous adventure. Admire your grit!

Love Carcassone. We “stumbled” on it years ago on a Friday night during a torrential rainstorm. We ended up eating cassoulet in a bar with lots of locals—and tourists. I convinced the waiter that beer was better than wine to go with cassoulet. No one wanted to go out in the rain, so we stayed in and drank. As the evening progressed, the whole bar ended up toasting different tables and singing La Marseillaise, God Save the Queen and The Star Spangled Banner.

I tried hard not to play the What-if head game and just enjoy the day's ride. So glad we didn't have to figure out another pivot.

The best laid plans …. After all of your careful preparations, what a hiccup to lose the bags. Sheesh! Glad you finally got them! Eager to read more of your adventure.

It was in the guidebook! How about that. Good for you for reading it. I didn't get through it all what with all the trip preparations, busy days and the journal.

Thanks so much for your comments! It's an effort to keep up with the journal every day but we really enjoy the memories.

I read about these unique structures. Apparently, they were used for drying hay. So much rain in the region required the farmers to build the racks with the little roof. Guidebook said they were the subject of souvenirs; I looked for one but couldn’t even find a refrigerator magnet!

Your music box sounds like a great find. I'm glad you got to experience the concert in the church too. We haven't been to any more concerts since we saw you at the Chopin hall in Krakow. Going to address that tonight with jazz in Barcelona.
