Exactly. Keith says I am sadly mistaken and he would know. I have absolutely no memory of four lane highways though. A neat trick, memory. I just remember a glorious ride. I do remember getting soaked though!

For the most part it looks like you followed the route we took from Sintra to Cascais except for a bit where we bailed away from the highway. Anyway glad you made it safely into Lisbon. We were a bit frustrated on our first day on our way from Lisbon to Setubal. The EV route goes around the peninsula but have no idea what that would be like. We tried a more direct route which was a bit frustrating at times. Good luck with that section.

I think you are right. That's the other one that looked close.

Really curious, since we were following the track sent to us by Keith. Maybe we got off track briefly and were then too focused on not being run off the road to really check the routing details?

I don’t think so. With that short stub of a bill it’s a plover of some kind. Plovers are tough and I’m no expert but I’d say it’s most likely a semipalmated plover.

You had quite the day. Somehow we managed to miss the four lane highways. Not sure how…you will have to ask the Chief Navigator! Love the Hotel Canada 🇨🇦.

Very nice, but it won’t top the water polo team we saw in Syracuse: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/sicily2016/to-catania-approaching-elusive-etna/#4335_2633023_W4h6ou_image

Oh dear, we would both flunk. Dodie because of arthritic knees/replacements which no longer have enough flex for that maneuver and Steve because he never had the flexibility to cross his legs let alone use them to rise up. Life skills indeed!

As an exotic Southern Californian, I can confirm the ubiquity of this plant in the land of my birth.

I think you could well be correct about walking to the mailbox, up/down that steep hill could keep the lady young. I went for physical therapy on my shoulder. As part of the assessment, I had to prove I could get up off of the floor. I could. The therapist said I should do that three times a day, and the ultimate goal is to be able to get up from a cross legged position, without hands. She said getting off of the floor is a life skill. Maybe similar to getting the mail in Portugal!

Probably not quite like this—Al checking out my Co-Motion back in 2014 when it was new. https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/planb/to-sunny-victoria/#21664_8p8ueozsv8xubel8bkaabp6d7p2
