I only just heard about the closure today so it was good to see your post:) We are heading across the Pyrenees next month and looking forward to Soulor and Aubisque.

2 months agoThanks for following along. You are so very lucky to live in such a wonderful cycling area. We owe a lot of our motivation to the CB community who have previously written about their experiences. We are not fast and as you so aptly in your blog - it is just a matter of starting, and then turning the pedals until you get to where you want to go.
3 months agoWhat a difference a decade will make. And how time flies - I remember reading that blog. I am thinking that the covid years really took a toll on business that was just on the margins. On this trip we saw a number of hotels, restaurants and stores that looked closed permanently.

3 months agoThank you for your journal. Very interesting reading and an impressive number of cols! Also I enjoyed seeing a couple of accommodation coincidences with hotels we stayed in in Beziers and Cucugnan.
3 months agoWe rode the Corniche a couple of months ago. It's always scary. Next time, if we are forced inland, it might be for the better!

3 months agoWhen I rode through this area in 2016, the road names on my Garmin, on my paper map, and on signs were all different! I’ve noticed many more bilingual (French/Catalan, French/Occitane) signs this time so I guess things are changing.

To us it appeared to be such a small section of road and the working being completed was minimal. BUT you could see that the entire road surface needed to be replaced. Not sure what this would require, but it would be more substantial than what was happening. You would think with the importance of this road there would be some urgency = so maybe the repairs will be completed before you arrive. I would also think that stronger enforcement of the closure may also be inevitable. We were so lucky!
