Scott - I’d laugh too if I wasn’t shaking my head at how absent-minded I can be. It’s a wonder I’m able to find my way bicycling around Europe - I must have a guardian angel for forgetful souls.
2 years agoWhat a story! As I read your post, I was in great admiration of your clear and well structured presentation of the topic and overall organization and attention to detail and how you how managed to pull everything together. And then the passport that got left behind! Oh, no! But I already knew that you have the long stay visa, phew! And of course you found a solution, also amazing in such short time. Well done, Susan!
2 years agoWow! Glad you were able to get your Visa. Sounds like the time Scotts wallet got dropped out of the car in the parking in Salem and we didn’t realize it until we got to the airport. We had to call someone to retrieve it but we had to go without it. We had a few travelers checks but had to have Scott’s parents wire us money.
2 years agoThat’s an amazing tale about your passport, Susan. I know that there was nothing funny at all about it for you, so I hope that you’ll excuse me for laughing out loud as I read about it. Glad it worked out, and congratulations!
2 years agoWow, glad I don't need a long-stay visa for the EU!
2 years agoThank Scott - Yes, I plan on the doing the online validation. I'll add more about what I found out/did for accommodation and insurance in Part II. Hope to get it posted this weekend.
2 years agoVery clear, and very helpful. Are you planning on the online validation option when you arrive, and what are you planning for proof of accommodation if you don’t mind describing it in general? Also, do you think you’ll say more about what you’ve decided to do about insurance and what it’s costing?
2 years agoThanks for documenting this. I bet you are getting excited!
2 years agoSteve - I was planning on an entry on getting the long stay visa. Your comment compels me to post it sooner rather than later, likely in a day or two. Thanks for your interest.
2 years agoWe have always accepted to look at life in 90 day slices. Actually I do get anxious to check on the house and land at around 90 days. But Dodie keeps talking about a second home base - like, Paris! and the long stay visa. So far we know nothing of what this involves. Can you fill us in a bit?

2 years agoRachael, Yes, I'm getting very excited - still can't believe it all! I'll look forward to following your adventures, as always. I'm sure we'll meet-up sometime this year.
2 years agoThanks Suzanne. I'm sure we'll arrange a meet up or two sometime in 2022. Looking forward to it.
2 years agoThanks Jacquie. I've been poring over your Rain in Spain journal for info on my ride in Andalusia. Am looking forward to following your upcoming Italian adventure - I absolutely loved my time there last fall.
