For just a second I thought "Suzanne's bike has a solid disc front wheel?? How did I not notice that before? And, WHY?" Guess I need another jolt of coffee.

2 years agoI remember a wonderful meal with fellow cyclists in this restaurant during a bike and barge trip in 2013! Lovely to know it’s still there, and still being enjoyed by cyclists
2 years agoHooray! I’ve been holding my breath that you’d both get there safely. I can exhale now.

2 years agoI had a similar problem on our 2015 tour. We ended up buying a container of break fluid and a syringe. Every morning we refilled the reservoir and bled the brakes. The leak was also around the lever end and very hard to see. I finally had the lot replaced with a standard Shimano hydraulic set and have had no more problems in the last 15000km of riding.
2 years agoI had friends who had bikes like this and I desperately wanted one, but they weren't available small enough for me.

2 years agoA great trip! Belgium is a jewel - there is so much to explore there. I learned a lot from your trip!
2 years agoAbout brakes - adding fluid could be only a temporary fix if there is a leak somewhere. On our last trip, two shops did bleeding and adding, until a third shop discovered the leak, which was at the lever piston. I was lucky that they had a replacement lever assembly, and the time to do the job, coming into a weekend. Since that repair all was well.
The leak was not super apparent at first, but that third mechanic was able to show oil on his finger, something that could not just be detected visually.
Sorry to hear about your brake issues!

2 years agoLove the info and maps about the Delta Works! Very interesting. Thanks for rekindling old memories of our very first bicycle tour of Europe.

That really drives home how much wing it takes for a bird that size to fly.
