I’m no expert, but I think it could be sorghum.
5 years agoThanks Kathleen - it's always nice to hear from those who are enjoying the postings. I know I'm having loads of fun! -Susan
5 years agoYes, I remember reading about the Semaine Fédérale Internationale du Cyclotourisme on one of the journals here. Somewhere near the Tarn?Yours maybe?
5 years agoAs spoken by a true resident! Thanks for the tip Keith - it is consistent with what I've seen, I just never put it together.
5 years agoEnjoying the heck out of you enjoying the heck out of your travels the last few days. Great photos too. Thanks.
5 years agoThe Charente is very tidal at Rochefort. I think that was why the hours of operation of the little pedestrian/bike ferry near the Pont Transbordeur were so odd when I was there. It probably doesn't run when the tide is really low because the ramps would be too steep.
5 years agoDompierre was host city for the Semaine Fédérale Internationale du Cyclotourisme the first week of August. About as many cyclists as the Iowa ride.
5 years agoYes. No curtains in the windows. Brightly lit spaces are not seen in the daytime.
5 years agoThe Charente is tidal up past Rochefort.
5 years agoI did the Hennessy tour when I was in Cognac because it was the only one in English in the morning. If I'm in Cognac again, I'll do the Otard tour because the tasting experience seems to be quite different.
5 years agoJacquie,
It looks like you had a great time in La Rochelle - thanks for the recommendation. I would like the name of the B&B if you don't mind. I'm spending 3 nights on Ile-de-Re and plan to spend another night in La Rochelle afterwards before moving on. Best, Susan
OK, this helps. Now I’ve got two notes about emergency water supplies in France.
5 years agoSuch a helpful thing to know! I hope I remember when the time comes. I’d make a note, but I’m not sure how I’d catalog it so I could retrieve it again.
5 years agoThanks, Susan. The photos are truly compelling. You did an incredible job telling this terrible chapter in the history of WWII both in words images.
