Thanks, Scott. As my physiotherapist says, at least cycling is a knee-friendly activity. We are only planning one real hike, to Riserva Naturale Dello Zingaro. I am hoping it's not a terribly technical trail! I could bring one or both of my hiking poles, but I'd rather not.
2 years agoI’m so sorry about your injury, Jacquie. Isn’t it surprising how much damage can be done by such a small slip? I’ve done the same thing myself and can imagine the feeling of landing on your foot with so much force. Good luck with the recovery!
2 years agoI was convinced by the Andersons’ first trip. Then they went back—a good sign—and now again! So many places to go!
2 years agoWe will be following along too, we would like to make it to Sicily in 2024.
2 years agoWhen I read about your and Scott's 2016 tour, I decided I had to go there someday. Then the Mathers went in 2018 and you returned in 2019! We are getting excited...
2 years agoSicily is one of my all time favorite places! The flowers are spectacular in the spring time and the food is amazing!
2 years agoThat looks like an amazing route Jacquie. Looking forward to following along!
2 years agoI first got interested in touring Sicily when I followed along with Scott and Rachel’s first tour there. But it definitely had to wait until after retirement!
2 years agoLooking forward to following along. Susanna and I will be relying on your (and others) experience for guidance for our own tour of Sicily one day!
2 years agoAh, well, you might be sick of us after Palermo and Castellammare del Golfo! It's a shorter trip for me (plenty long enough for Al) and no ferry to the boot this time.
2 years agoRacpat just updated their route through Sicily a few days ago. Looks like we’ll be missing you by just a day. We’re all booked down in Patti on the 16th. So close!
2 years agoHi Scott
We are in Randazzo April 16 and 17, moving on to Troina on April 18. We'll pass through Nicosia on our way to Sperlinga on April 19.
Earlier, we'll be in Grammichele April 5, going via Caltagirone to Piazza Armerina for two nights on April 6. You'll have moved on by then, it seems.
I'm not sure what Racpat's dates/route are.
So when are you staying in Randazzo, Troina and Nicosia? We must be within a day or two in Randazzo (4/15 for us), but you must certainly be crossing paths somewhere with Racpat traveling east along your route. It looks like they’re planning stays in Nicosia, Troina and Randazzo themselves before meeting up with us.
Also, you’re staying in Grammichele and then biking through Caltagirone on your way to Piazza Armerina? We must be a hit or near miss there also - we’ll be in Caltagirone for three nights on 3/30-4/01.
Of course!

I feel the same way about my bike trainer. I associate it with recovery from injury. I'd rather be outdoors than spinning inside, even if the weather is terrible.
2 years agoWe've had a mediocre downhill ski season in Revelstoke (although conditions are excellent right now), and a terrible backcountry season (low snowpack and nasty avalanche conditions), but we've had terrific nordic ski conditions since the first week of December. Lucky us.
I may be in Sicily this fall. Will read your journal with interest!
