Oh, my gosh. This brings so many frustrating train memories to mind, but this tops them all. Glad you made it in safely, and hopefully your backs and knees are fine. Funny about the woman who lent an hand also - that seems to always be the way, in our experience - the guys watch, the women pitch in.
5 years agoNice to hear from you. We are only in Holland 3 days this trip but we relish any time that we can be here. This is our 3rd trip here and we also usually camp. A number of years ago we found some incredible “small” campgrounds that were outstanding. You can see them on our journal, Following in Barry’s Grandfather’s WW1 .Footsteps
5 years agoOh how I love cycling in Holland. As we had brought our tent last year, we found out how very available camping was in rural holland. And typically on very nice grassy pitches.
5 years agoWhat a lovely attitude! It can be frustrating in the moment, but if you can focus on the positive and keep perspective on the challenges, it really makes for a wonderful holiday, doesn't it ? So glad you are on your way, we are really looking forward to following you. This is mostly a stay at home summer for us in our first year in Mill Bay. We now live just 10 minutes from our dear friends, the Grampies. Hopefully there is a good chance we will get to meet you in the future when you are back from your adventure.
5 years agoLet the adventures begin! Looking forward to following along!
5 years agoIndeed!
So sorry to hear about your crisis that forced an early end to your travels. That is something we all know can happen, but hope it doesn’t.
Hope you are both ok. Will be thinking of you.
I think it was 1.20 € per. Barry and I recall a place that offered it for .70€ and can’t remember where! We are looking forward to getting back to Poland where the ice cream is also incredible.
5 years agoNo we haven’t but that is an excellent idea. When we next need one, that is what we’ll try.
Thanks
Mary Ellen
What is the per kugel price at San Marco? 1 euro is the lowest we have ever seen, but in France 4 euros or more is possible.
5 years agoHave you ever tried purchasing a SIM card in the airports you have flown into? We have had luck in both Portugal and Switzerland.
5 years agoThese are all great looking tortes. Garcia's is the Demel of Westerburg!
5 years agoYes indeed. And as we proceed through the Baltic countries, we will see a different type of forest again. Don’t you love that about travel?
You must be getting excited about your quickly approaching trip to France. We have loved it there and wish you good travels, few punctures and the wind at your back!
In English!
5 years agoSo different from the forests in coastal BC!

Here at Grampies home base there is a strong faction that asserts this account is the greatest, most hair raising, bike onto the train (with stairs) story ever. But some have promoted our own account of a seat (and post) thrown under the train while under attack by not one but three conductors, as a pretty worthy contender. At least we all have by-passed the bikes at the airport genre!
